The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has officially postponed the Match Day 2 fixture between El-Kanemi Warriors and Kwara United, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.
The match, initially slated for Sunday, September 15, has been rescheduled due to the devastating flood disaster currently affecting Borno State. The severe flooding in Maiduguri has displaced thousands of residents, severely disrupted businesses, and led to the temporary closure of many schools. Local authorities are grappling with the aftermath as entire communities have been submerged, and relief efforts are underway.
According to reports, the overflow of the Alau Dam has triggered the worst flooding the region has experienced in three decades, causing extensive damage to infrastructure and livelihoods. With the state of emergency declared in the region, it has become impossible for El-Kanemi Warriors to host the match as planned.
The NPFL, in coordination with local officials and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), will monitor the situation closely before deciding on a new date for the fixture. The safety and well-being of the players, staff, and fans remain a top priority for the league during this challenging time.
