Ayew family ends 28-year association with French giants Marseille after Andre's deal with Swansea

Ghana star Andre Ayew decision to sign for English Premier League side Swansea City on Wednesday has ended his family's 28-year association with French giants Marseille.

The Ayew family has been inextricably linked with Marseille since his father became a hero for the French side where he achieved great things.

Andre Ayew's departure from Marseille brings to an end a 28-year association that his family have with the club.

His father, Abedi Pele, signed for the Ligue 1 club in 1987 and was part of their Champions League-winning team in 1993.

Younger brother Jordan also started his career at the State Velodrome, before joining Lorient last season.

Andre's decision to leave Marseille means that his family ties with the French club has ended.

Ayew, a former BBC African Footballer of the Year, had talks with Queens Park Rangers in January but they came to nothing.

In May the Ghanaian said he was weighing up options to join clubs in England, Italy and Germany and admitted the Premier League is a huge attraction for him.
