Nigeria forward, Taiwo Awoniyi came through for his club once again when it mattered most as he scored in Nottingham Forest's win over Southampton at the St Mary's Stadium.

The 25-year-old who was the man of the match in Forest's impressive draw against Chelsea in their last match, was the protagonist who propelled his team to their first away win since their return topflight football in England.

Awoniyi scored in the 27th minute after Lyanco carelessly lost possession on the halfway line with Brennan Johnson capitalising and racing clear before pulling the ball across to Awoniyi, who buried the chance.

His third time of being the match winner for the Reds just as he did against Manchester United and Westham United.

The goal was also Forest's second away league goal of 2022-2003 season.

Joe Aribo, Samuel Edozie and Adam Armstrong were brought on in the 64th minute to get something from the game for the Saints but it proved abortive.

Emmanuel Dennis was an unused substitute throughout the duration of the game for Nottingham Forest.

The win takes Forest to 15th out of the relegation zone while Southampton languish bottom of the English Premier League table with 12 points after 18 matches.
