Auxerre secured their first Ligue 1 victory of the season by beating Nice at home in the fourth round of the French championship.
The result ended a difficult start for Auxerre, who had suffered three consecutive defeats before welcoming Nice. Their supporters had hoped the fixture would provide an opportunity to turn their fortunes around.
The hosts created chances during the first half but were unable to find a way past the Nice defence. They continued to push for the opening goal after the interval and were rewarded in the 74th minute.
Auxerre produced a well-worked attack, with Christ Makossou supplying Cameron Archer. The forward made no mistake with the opportunity, sending a precise shot into the net to put the home side ahead.
Nice attempted to respond and find an equaliser, but Auxerre held firm to protect their advantage. The hosts saw out the remainder of the match and claimed all three points.
