AshantiGold have dropped the protest filed against Asante Kotoko over the use of an ineligible player – choosing to rather concentrate on their Premier League title push.

The Miners were looking to have their 1-0 defeat suffered against the champions reversed over the use of striker Obed Owusu who they claim was unqualified to play that match due to accumulated cautions.

AshGold’s protest was similar to the one filed by Hearts of Oak against Kotoko over the use of the same player.

But the Miners who are just one win away from sealing their first Premier League title triumph in over a decade have now resolved to discontinue with their pursuit of boardroom points.

“We filed a protest against Kotoko. Protests are part of the game,” AshGold CEO Kudjoe Fianoo told Asempa FM.

“But we sat down as a club and the decision was that we discontinue the case.

“The general consensus was that we focus on winning the league on the field of play.

“A whole lot of negative readings were made into the protest and some were even doubting our credibility to win the league on merit – that is on the field of play.”
