Lookman, 26, has impressed for both club and country, scoring three goals in seven appearances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and inspiring Atalanta to UEFA Europa League glory.

The winger's hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen and his nomination in the 30-man Ballon d'Or shortlist have made him a strong contender for the CAF Player of the Year award.

"He's in line (to be crowned CAF Player of the Year winner) if he continues the way he is doing," Amuneke told SportsBoom.

"I watched the last game against Rwanda, and his performance was outstanding."

Amuneke, a former African Footballer of the Year winner himself, believes Lookman's consistency and impact on the continental stage make him an exemplary candidate.

"If a Nigerian wins it next, it is definitely a joyous one," Amuneke added, referencing past Nigerian winners like Victor Ikpeba and Nwankwo Kanu.

Lookman's success would continue Nigeria's proud tradition of producing exceptional talent, and Amuneke's endorsement underscores his potential to claim Africa's top individual honor.
