The move comes after a mandatory clause worth over €9 million (about £7 million) was activated in his loan agreement with AFC Ajax.

Akpom will sign a three-year contract that will keep him at Portman Road until 2029, marking a long-term commitment to the newly promoted side.

During his 2025/26 loan spell, the 30-year-old made 29 appearances across all competitions, mostly as a substitute, scoring two goals. His only start and goal came in Ipswich’s 3–0 win over Oxford United on New Year’s Day.

Akpom originally joined Ipswich in August 2025, turning down interest from other clubs, and has now become part of the squad as they prepare for top-flight football.
