Benin Republic head coach, Gernot Rohr is bracing himself for a fierce backlash from the Super Eagles on Saturday, as Nigeria seek revenge for their 2-1 defeat in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying tie in June, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The Cheetahs' stunning victory over their West African neighbours has set the stage for a highly-anticipated 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying encounter at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Rohr, who masterminded the Cheetahs' upset win in Abidjan, acknowledges that the Super Eagles have strengthened since their last meeting.

The German tactician is expecting a tough challenge from the Super Eagles, who will be determined to avenge their defeat and make a strong start to their AFCON qualifying campaign.

“Nigeria is not a conquered territory, far from it. We beat Nigeria three months ago, they will certainly have a spirit of revenge which can be important and that is normal,” Rohr told Benin Football.

“They did not have certain players who are there now: Ekong, the captain, Osimhen who will be there this time, he was not there last time, and behind also they have contributions, Ola Aina is there.

“It’s going to be a stronger team than the one we beat in June in Abidjan. We are wary. In addition, at home, they have the obligation to achieve a result now after a series of draws or even defeats.”

Rohr's Benin Republic side will be looking to repeat their heroics and secure another crucial away point, but the Super Eagles will be eager to prove their superiority on home soil after one win in their last four games.
