Nigerian forward Moses Simon has issued a caution to the Super Eagles, urging them not to underestimate Guinea-Bissau in their upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) clash, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Guinea-Bissau have been the whipping boys of the Group, having lost 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire and 4-2 to Equitorial Guinea. While Nigeria on the other hand have recorded one win and one draw.
Simon however, emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant against Guinea-Bissau, noting that the opposing team had previously secured a victory over the Super Eagles during the AFCON qualifiers.
“We have to keep fighting hard and not underrate our next opponent [Guinea-Bissau]. They beat us in the qualifiers which is enough for us to be wary of them,” Simon told reporters ahead of Nigeria’s clash with Guinea-Bissau.
“The good thing is that everything is in our hands now. We know what to do to be in the next round. The victory over Ivory Coast has helped us a lot.
“The most important thing now is for us to keep doing our best in training and on matchdays. It is still a long way to go for us, but the key thing is to remain positive and keep working towards achieving our target.”
Nigeria will face the Djurtus on Monday evening at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.
