Following Equatorial Guinea’s group stage humiliation, the Elephants looked away and downcast. However, three consecutive knockout victories have set up an unlikely championship final match with Nigeria who haven’t tasted defeat in the tournament.

Nigeria on the other hand set up an AFCON final after a dramatic penalty shootout win against South Africa with the Super Eagles prevailing 4-2 on penalties following a captivating 1-1 draw over 120 minutes at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake on Wednesday.

Despite all the obstacles, Cote d’Ivoire’s march to the final has been fueled by this passionate unity. Just when the Elephants needed it most, Emerse Faé gave them a new lease on life, Nigeriasoccernet.com wites.

From impending disaster to this Sunday’s match against Nigeria, Faé has orchestrated one of the biggest comebacks in AFCON history.

“We will take stock in the next two days, we will analyze Nigeria, even though we played them in the group stage, we will see the strategy to implement for the final,” Faé conceded.

If the Elephants keep up this pace, dreams could come true and if Faé’s rescue effort wins the AFCON on home soil, it could have a happily ever after conclusion.

Nigeria now stand one win away from a fourth African crown. Propelled by Nwabali’s shootout brilliance, Sunday’s final sees them as a strong contenders for the title.
