Ghana defender Daniel Amartey is sad he had to tasted defeat in his first competitive match as the Black Stars slipped to a 2-1 defeat to Senegal.
The FC Copenhagen youngster was handed a starting role in Avram Grant’s set-up and excelled-earning him the Fair Play Award at the Nations Cup.
Ghana took a first half lead but Senegal came back strongly in the second stanza with two goals including a late late match-winner.
Amartey, 18, is unhappy his Nations Cup debut did not go as planned but admits Senegal deserved to win.
"I did not want to lose on my debut game for my country but that is football. It is very painful but we have to bounce back in our next game. Senegal played better on the day and deserved to win," Amartey said.
