More trouble is hitting the camp of the U-23 national football team with the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF joining in distracting the team with orders allegedly coming from the Secretary General, Dr Mohammed Sanusi.

A reliable source in the team’s camp disclosed to out sports team yesterday that while the campaign to bring honour to the country by winning the gold medal is still on, Dr. Sanusi has allegedly instructed one of the federation’s staff attached to the team, Siji Lagunju to return some of the jerseys meant for matches.

“There are too many distractions in our camp now. Can you imagine that Dr. Sanusi (NFF scribe) has asked Siji Lagunju to go to the equipment manager to collect all the jerseys in his room (and) bring them back to Nigeria without the knowledge of the officials when we still have matches to play,” he said.

The source wondered why Dr. Sanusi would give that kind of order, adding “they are not happy that  we are winning”. The official also denied reports making the rounds that they have been paid their five months salary.

“It is not true that we have been paid, we are yet to get any money, we are still expecting the federation to pay us,” he said. This may not be unconnected to the story which broke yesterday that the NFF president, Amaju Pinnick has directed the secretariat to use the $60,000 grant recently received from CAF to pay the U23 team coaches.
