Troost-Ekong: Super Eagles determined to qualify for 2026 World Cup
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has expressed his team's determination to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup through the CAF Play-Off Tournament, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The team booked their place in the playoffs after a convincing 4-0 victory over Benin Republic on Tuesday night.
"We are quite happy to have that opportunity. It's a long route, but it's a route nonetheless," Troost-Ekong said.
"We would have loved to get the automatic ticket, but it didn't happen, and we take what we have. For us, we will remain strong, tough, and ready to confront every challenge on our way as we search for the ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup."
The CAF Play-Off Tournament will take place in Morocco from November 13 to November 16, 2025, with the winner advancing to the intercontinental play-offs in Mexico next March.
Nigeria will face Gabon in the semi-final on November 13.
The Super Eagles' victory over Benin Republic was marked by a stunning hat-trick from Victor Osimhen and a late goal from substitute Frank Onyeka.
However, Rwanda's loss to South Africa meant Nigeria missed out on automatic qualification.
