Kano Pillars FC have described the ongoing Gold Cup pre-season tournament as an avenue to test the quality of its new players ahead of 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

The club’s media Officer, Idris Malikawa stated that the quality of matches they have played in the tournament, had given them the opportunity to gauge the strength of the team and how to blend their players ahead of the new season.

The new players in Ijebu-Ode with Sai Masu Gida, according to Malikawa, include former Enyimba of Aba captain, Chinedu Udoji, Sikiru Kamal, Aliyu Abdulrazak, Jiya Muhammad, Victor Dennis, Kabiru Balogun, Ibrahim Alassan and Fahad Usman who are from Enyimba, Lobi Stars, Ikorodu and Sardauna babes’ football clubs respectively.

He said the club is currently negotiating with the players and their former clubs to get clearance to play for the club in the forthcoming season.

“Despite the fact that new players currently in our camp are quality players but the tournament would give them more challenges in order to be well prepared for the forthcoming season,” Malikawa said.
