Nasarawa United record 2- 1 win over Senegalese side Generation Foot in their 2016 CAF Confederation Cup match played on Sunday.

In  their first game on the continent in eight years, the Solid Miners were all over the Senegalese opponents in the early exchanges at the National Stadium in Abuja.

Led by skipper Emmanuel Makama, the Lafia-based side went for broke and were rewarded in the sixth minute of the game when Tayo Fabiyi scored the opener.

Nasarawa United kept going at it but could not add to the tally as the first half ended with the Nigerians on the front foot. Generation Foot got an all-important away goal just two minutes after when Ibrahima Niane burst through Nasarawa United's defence to score the equaliser.

The Nigerian side kept going at it but failed to score. Abdulrahman Bashir and Esosa Igbinoba all tried to score but to no avail. Seun Sogbeso scored the winner two minutes from time from a well-taken penalty after Nasarawa United were given a spot kick.

The pressure will now be on Nasarawa United going into the second leg in Senegal in a fortnight. Nigeria's other team in the 2016 CAF Champions League, Warri Wolves yesterday progressed into the next round of the competition without kicking a ball.

The Warri side was billed to play hosts to Sao Tome/Principe outfit Club de Sporting de Praia Cruz at the Warri City Stadium in the first leg of the preliminary round of Africa's premier club competition.

Wolves had complained that the Sao Tome club kept them in the dark as regards their travelling arrangements until late Saturday when it emerged that CS Praia Cruz will likely not make the trip to Nigeria despite the arrival of match officials.

The Sao Tome club were absent at the pre-match meeting, and yesterday at 4pm local time, Wolves lined out with no opponents present. The match officials, Daniel Nii Laryea, David Nelson Agyin and Paul Atimaka, all from Ghana, after 15 minutes performed a walkover ritual in favour of the hosts.
