Maduka Okoye Set for Serie A Return After Betting-Related Suspension
Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is set to return to action in the Italian Serie A next week following the expiration of his suspension, writes Nigeriasoccernet.com.
The Udinese shot-stopper was handed a ban in late July after being found guilty of intentionally earning a yellow card during a match against Lazio, an incident linked to a betting irregularity.
Speaking on Udinese Tonight, a weekly program on TV12, Udinese’s temporary first-choice goalkeeper Daniele Padelli confirmed Okoye’s imminent return to the squad.
“He’s been training hard, as if he was playing every week, perhaps even more than before,” Padelli revealed. “The time away was an opportunity for him to work on minor details and improve. Now that the ‘break’ is over, it’s up to the coach to decide who starts.”
Padelli, who jokingly admitted he might lose his place once Okoye returns, added: “Maduka has a strong personality; he doesn’t let pressure or expectations affect him.”
Okoye’s comeback will be a major boost for Udinese, as they look to strengthen their defensive solidity heading into the next phase of the Serie A campaign.
