Nigerian defender, Felix Agu has undergone successful surgery to repair a syndesmosis ligament injury sustained during Werder Bremen's Bundesliga match against St. Pauli last weekend, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Agu was stretchered off the pitch just before halftime and further assessment confirmed the nature of the injury.

The club shared a picture of Agu after the procedure, confirming that the operation was a success.

However, the defender is expected to be sidelined for several months, casting doubt over his participation in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Agu's absence will be a significant blow to both Werder Bremen and the Nigerian national team.

The 24-year-old left-back had been included in the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin Republic before sustaining the injury.
