Nigerian forward, Gift Monday scored a crucial goal as Washington Spirit defeated Portland Thorns 2-0 to secure a place in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Championship final, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Monday opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, marking her 12th goal in the NWSL this season.

The 24-year-old has also scored once in the CONCACAF Women's Cup and registered two assists.

Croix Bethune sealed the win with a second goal six minutes from time. Monday's international teammate, Deborah Abiodun, featured as a substitute, replacing Leicy Santos 18 minutes from the end.

The Spirit will now face the winner of Sunday's semifinal between Gotham FC and Orlando Pride in the championship game, scheduled for next weekend in San Jose, California.
