The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has explained the reason behind the cancellation of the Super Falcons’ scheduled trophy parade in Abuja, following their memorable triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), NigeriaSoccernet.com reports.

The Nigerian women's senior team spectacularly captured their 10th WAFCON title, staging a thrilling 3–2 comeback win over hosts Morocco at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat on Saturday night. The victory not only extended Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football but also set the stage for nationwide celebrations.

As part of the celebration plans, the NFF had announced that the Super Falcons would showcase the newly designed WAFCON trophy in a victory parade across Abuja aboard an open-top bus—an event meant to bring fans closer to the champions.

Unfortunately, those plans were upended by severe rainfall in the Federal Capital Territory, which prompted a last-minute change in arrangements. According to the NFF Director of Communications, Dr. Demola Olajire, the weather conditions made the parade unsafe.

“The rain didn’t allow for open-roof bus movement,” Dr. Olajire said in an exclusive chat with BSN Sports on Monday.

Instead of the parade, the team was transported directly from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to Aso Rock Villa, where they were warmly welcomed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

During the reception, President Tinubu announced a generous reward package for the African champions, including ?150 million for each player, a three-bedroom apartment, and the prestigious national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). The coaching staff also received equivalent recognition, further underscoring the nation's appreciation for their contribution.
