Hugo Broos calls on Thabiso Monyane for injured Nyiko Mobbie ahead Super Eagles clash
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has called on Thabiso Monyane to replace the injured Nyiko Mobbie ahead of clash with Super Eagles, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Nyiko Mobbie was forced to exit the pitch barely five minutes into the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho at the Free State Stadium on Friday September 5, after suffering a fractured eye socket.
Bafana Bafana team doctor Tshepo Molobi confirmed that Nyiko Mobbie was rushed to hospital on Friday night and had to undergo an operation this morning.
“The injury happened as a result of a clash of heads in the first half and he sustained a fracture of the eye socket in three places,” Dr Molobi told SAFA.net.
The Kaizer Chiefs right-back will join the team in Bloemfontein this weekend as they take on the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Tuesday.
The Bafana Bafana defeated Lesotho 0+3 on Friday night to extend their lead over in group C with 16 points, 9 points better than their Nigeria counterpart that have a game to spare with 7 points.
Nigeria are now in a dicey situation as a slip up in any of their remaining matches of the World Cup Qualifiers means they will not be in the 2026 World Cup.
