Akor Adams Nets Brace on AFCON Return as Sevilla Hold Elche
Super Eagles striker Akor Adams marked his return from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in emphatic fashion, coming off the bench to score twice as Sevilla fought back to secure a 2–2 draw against Elche on Monday night, Nigeriasoccernet.com writes.
The Nigerian forward netted both goals for the Andalusian side, ending Sevilla’s four-match losing streak across all competitions. Adams completed his brace deep into stoppage time from the penalty spot after referee Ricardo de Burgos awarded a spot-kick for a handball in the Elche area.
Sevilla had earlier fallen behind following goals from Aleix Febas in the first half and Germán Valera shortly after the restart, but Adams’ impact off the bench turned the game around. His late heroics ensured Sevilla avoided another defeat and claimed a valuable point at home.
Fellow Nigeria international Chidera Ejuke, who also recently returned from AFCON duty, was introduced in the 65th minute as Sevilla finally brought an end to a poor run of results that dated back to December 17, just two days after both players left for international duty.
Adams, 25, featured in all seven of Nigeria’s matches at AFCON 2025, registering two goals and two assists as the Super Eagles finished third in the tournament. Sevilla head coach Matías Almeyda had confirmed ahead of the Elche fixture that both Adams and Ejuke would be available, with the duo returning to Spain on Sunday following the conclusion of Nigeria’s AFCON campaign.
