After bitter semi-final disappointments, Nigeria and Egypt will clash on Saturday in Casablanca to decide the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, writes Nigeriasoccernet.com.

The Super Eagles fell 4-2 on penalties to hosts Morocco following a goalless 120 minutes, while the Pharaohs were edged 1-0 by Senegal. Both sides now seek to end the tournament on a high note with a consolation victory.

Egypt’s Challenge The Pharaohs face a tough task, aiming to record their first AFCON win over Nigeria since 2010 in Angola. In that memorable group-stage match, Egypt came from behind to claim a 3-1 victory: Chinedu Obasi had put Nigeria ahead in the 12th minute, before Emad Moteab, Ahmed Hassan, and Mohamed Nagy turned the game in Egypt’s favour.

Historically, Nigeria holds the upper hand at the tournament. Out of nine previous AFCON meetings, Egypt has won only two, lost five, and drawn twice.

Egypt will also be without key players: Hossam Abdelmaguid is suspended, and Mohamed Hamdy is sidelined with a serious knee injury. Star winger Mohamed Salah, Egypt’s top scorer with four goals, is doubtful, leaving the attacking responsibilities to Omar Marmoush, Mostafa Mohamed, and Trezeguet.

Nigeria’s Situation The Super Eagles will miss Calvin Bassey, suspended after a booking against Morocco, but Wilfred Ndidi returns from suspension. Head coach Eric Chelle has raised concerns over Victor Osimhen, who is carrying an ankle injury that forced him off during the Morocco shootout. Should Osimhen be unavailable, attacking duties will fall to Ademola Lookman, Akor Adams, and Paul Onuachu.

With both teams seeking redemption, Saturday’s clash promises to be a highly competitive encounter as Nigeria and Egypt battle for the final podium spot in AFCON 2025.
