AshantiGold fought back to drown defending champions Asante Kotoko 2-1 and tighten their grip at the top of the Ghana Premier League table.

Kotoko took the lead through Latif Amadu who clinically finished off a move from left-back Eric Donkor in the 14th minute.

But the Miners were unrelenting and equalized from the spot through returnee striker Yakubu Mohammed on 33 minutes.

Kotoko defender Akwesi Acheampong handled a ball inside the box and referee pointed to the 12-yard box.

Both sides went into the break tied but after the break, it was Bernard Morrison whose shot at goal rattled the side post before rolling into the net in the 69th minute.

AshantiGold have now opened a five-point lead after closet challengers Aduana Stars lost 2-0 to Inter Allies.
