Former Super Eagles stars Nwankwo Kanu and Austin Okocha have commended Nigeria's U-23 national team for earning a quarter final place at the ongoing Rio Olympics Games after a 1-0 win over European champions Sweden.

Both Kanu and Okocha chose social media site twitter to express their congratulations to the Nigerian team which will be playing their final group game against Columbia on Wednesday.

"Congratulations our dear team Nigeria U-23.well done boys and well done Samson and your coaching staff, we are proud of you all keep going," Nigeria's Atlanta 1996 hero Kanu wrote.

While Okocha said what the team is doing is highly commendable given issues faced before their arrival in Brazil for the tournament.

"Well done Siasia and his crew/players for winning again against all odds. Keep it up bro," the ex-Bolton captain noted.

If Nigeria avoids defeat against Colombia they will win Group B and take on the runners-up in Group A, which has Denmark topping and Brazil second after their second goalless draw with Iraq. Also yesterday, Nigeria national teams sponsor, Globacom commended the U-23 national team, for qualifying for the quarter-finals of men's football event of the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Brazil.

Glo, in a press statement, commended the fighting spirit and doggedness of the team which saw them defeating Group B opponents, Japan and Sweden by five goals to four and a lone goal respectively.

"The Dream Team has, so far, been outstanding in the tournament. We urge them to sustain the momentum during the last Group B match against Colombia on Wednesday so as to top the group and remain in the commanding position," Globacom said.

Globacom also praised the team for making Nigeria and Africa proud and said it looked forward to seeing them progress to the final and ultimately win the gold medal.

Meanwhile, Siasia's team look set to battle hosts Brazil for a place in the last four going by the current standings and form.
