Former champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League, Enyimba FC will be playing in the continent next season following a win on the last day of the 2023/2024 league season on Sunday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The Aba giants had to do it the hard way to beat Plateau United 2-0 at the Enyimba International Stadium to secure third position in the log courtesy of goals by Chijioke Mbaoma and Alade Balogun.

With Shooting Stars Sports Club on the heels of the People's Elephant it was either a win or they miss out on playing continental football next season.

It was looking like it was going to be that way as the Coach Yemi Olarenwaju led side were wasteful for a large part of the encounter as score remained goalless while 3SC led 1-0 against Sporting Lagos.

However, with 12 minutes left to the end of the match, league top scorer, Mbaoma answered finally to the call to give the hosts the lead.

Balogun got the memo, calming all nerves with an 88 minute goal which sealed the win and qualified the two-time African champions to the CAF Confederation Cup.

The last time Enyimba FC played in the Confederation Cup, they reached the quarter final in 2021.
