Several players of Nigeria’s Olympic football team have threatened to shun the Games and return to their clubs following poor travel arrangements which has seen them stranded in the United States just over 24 hours to their first game.

The Nigerian Olympic football team are still in the United States after failed plans to airlift them to Brazil, where the Games are taking place and as at 2pm Nigerian time on Wednesday, there was no confirmation on how or when the team would depart for Brazil.

They were initially scheduled to leave for Rio last Friday, then it was moved to Monday, and then Tuesday, and then Wednesday but the players were still in their hotel rooms in Atlanta, United States as at 2pm Nigerian time.

Reacting to the poor travel arrangement, one of the players said; “This is nonsense. What are we supposed to do now? Just sit in America when the Games are happening in Brazil? We don’t even know when we are leaving and I tell you if we don’t leave today Wednesday, I will just pack my bags and return to my club.”
