Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers could be handed his first start of the 2025/26 season for Glasgow Rangers tonight as they host Viktoria Plzen in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League at Ibrox, as gathered by Nigeriasoccernet.com.

The 30-year-old Nigerian, who finished as the club’s top scorer last season with 18 goals, has been in the spotlight this summer amid links to Greek side AEK Athens. Despite the transfer rumours, Dessers has continued to work hard, earning praise from manager Russell Martin, who described him as a model professional amid the club's summer transfer speculation.

“I said to some of the guys in there, Cyriel is the only one we have actually had a bid for and interest in. And he comes on and he runs so hard, on Wednesday night and today (Saturday). Some of them need to have a look at him and set that example,” Martin said after their weekend league opener.

Dessers made his first appearance of the domestic season during Rangers’ 1-1 draw at Motherwell, coming on in the second half to replace Danilo Pereira. His energy and commitment have placed him in contention to start against Plzen, especially after several underwhelming displays from the team’s other forwards.

Rangers qualified for this stage after a 3-1 aggregate victory over Panathinaikos in the second round. However, following the disappointing draw in their Scottish Premiership opener, manager Martin is expected to make key changes to inspire a better performance.
