Chuba Akpom cries out on playing for Super Eagles
Ipswich Town striker Chuba Akpom has once again expressed his desire to represent Nigeria at senior level, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Born to Nigerian parents in the UK, Akpom has represented England at various youth levels.
However, despite his impressive performances for Middlesbrough and Ajax, the 29-year-old has failed to break into the England senior team and has been overlooked by Nigeria.
Akpom revealed that he has obtained a Nigerian passport and his agent is in contact with Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle.
“They’ve made me do the passport stuff. My agent has been in contact with the manager [Éric Chelle] and they’ve always liked me.
“If I was to get called up, it would be an honour of course,” Akpom said as par Dailypost.
Akpom believes selection for the Super Eagles should be based on merit, adding that he will continue to work hard in the hope of getting a chance to represent Nigeria.
Despite the competition from other talented Nigerian strikers, Akpom remains hopeful that his performances will eventually earn him a call-up.
