Chelle in High Spirits as NSC Clears All Entitlements Ahead of AFCON Knockout Clash
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is reported to be in a buoyant mood and fully focused on Nigeria’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign after receiving all his outstanding financial entitlements from the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
A source within the Super Eagles camp in Fez, Morocco, confirmed that the French tactician has been paid in full, including his salary for January 2026. The timely settlement is understood to have further boosted morale within the camp as the team intensifies preparations for the knockout stage of the tournament.
“Eric Chelle is in a good state of mind financially. All his entitlements have been paid, including his January salary,” the source disclosed.
According to information made available, Chelle has earned a total of $60,000 in performance-related bonuses so far at the tournament. This figure is calculated at $20,000 per match following Nigeria’s perfect run in the group stage, where the Super Eagles recorded three consecutive victories. In addition to the match bonuses, the coach is said to be receiving a daily allowance of $400, which commenced from the start of the team’s pre-tournament training camp in Egypt.
The source further commended the NSC for its efficient handling of financial obligations, stressing that the absence of payment-related issues has helped create a calm and united environment within the squad.
“The coaches are happy, the players are not complaining, and the fans are satisfied because the team is performing well and winning. There are no controversial issues at all,” the source added.
The smooth administrative approach off the pitch has reportedly allowed both the technical crew and players to channel their full attention toward on-field objectives, a factor many believe has contributed to Nigeria’s impressive performances so far in Morocco.
With financial distractions eliminated, Chelle and his players are now fully focused on the Round of 16 encounter against Mozambique. The Super Eagles will take on the Mambas on Monday, January 5, 2026, at the Fez Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 pm, as Nigeria continues its quest for a fourth AFCON title.
