Ghana’s deputy sports minister, Vincent Oppong Asamoah has been caught again ‘shifting the goalposts’, blaming the Finance ministry for the delay of the Black Stars bonuses.

Oppong Asamoah made the sensational U-turn, days after accusing the Ghana FA for the delay of payment to the players, claiming the federation submitted its budget late.

The minister was forced to eat humble pie after documents emerged the Ghana FA had submitted its budget to the ministry five weeks before the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mauritius at the Accra sports stadium.

He has now ‘shifted the goalposts’ by accusing the Finance ministry over the delay payment.

“The Finance Ministry also has a part to play when it comes to the release of money. When the budget gets to us (Sports Ministry) we don’t delay at all and when it is sent to the Flagstaff House, they also don’t delay. The delay is always from the Ministry of Finance,” he told Accra-based Starr FM.

The Black Stars thrashed 7-1 Mauritius in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations opening qualifier three weeks ago but are yet to be paid their winning bonuses of $10,000 each.

The ministry had been under fire for the delays as it was the first time in over 15 years that bonuses for the national team delayed – a phenomenon which led to the chaos and disgrace at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
