Awaziem Features as Nantes’ Poor Run Continues in Angers Defeat
Nigeria international Chidozie Awaziem was in action for Nantes on Friday night as they suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Angers in a French Ligue 1 encounter, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Super Eagles defender played the full 90 minutes, but could not prevent Nantes from slipping to their third consecutive league defeat. The result further deepens the club’s struggles this season, with Nantes now winless in their last seven matches, recording five losses and two draws during that period.
The latest setback leaves Nantes languishing in 17th position on the Ligue 1 table with just 11 points after 16 matches in the 18-team league. Their recent run of results has increased pressure on the side as they battle to avoid the relegation zone heading into the next round of fixtures.
Despite the team’s difficulties, Awaziem has remained a regular figure in the Nantes lineup. The defender has now made 16 league appearances this season, contributing one assist in the French topflight.
On the international scene, Awaziem remains an important member of the Super Eagles setup and has been included in Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. He was also part of the team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoffs, where he provided an assist in Nigeria’s impressive 4-1 semi-final victory over Gabon in Morocco.
