Alan Pardew Reveals App Can Tell Him If Crystal Palace Players Are Doing Pre-Game 'Homework'
"?Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has revealed that the club are able to keep track of which players are doing their 'homework' on upcoming opponents and which are not as a result of an app the club uses to prepare for games.
"We have an app where a player can go and see his opponent, all the clips, everything," London Evening Standard. "What he eats, what he drinks, the dances he likes," the Eagles boss joked.
"You know what, we know when we've been on there too because it registers with our main computer. If I said to you 'have been you been watching your player?' and you said 'yeah gaffer, yeah, yeah, yeah' and I see you haven't used it I know."
There were rumours last season that Manchester United players used to leave emails from manager Louis van Gaal open on their phone so it looked like they were reading his latest over-detailed tactical for much longer than they were.
There's obviously no suggestion of that kind of thing at Palace, but it's a potentially interesting shift in dynamic whereby the coaches and staff know how seriously players are taking their preparation, and players know that their activity can be monitored.
Whatever's been going on at Selhurst Park this season, it had been working until Saturday when a 1-0 defeat against West Ham brought an end to a five-game unbeaten streak which had also included three consecutive wins in the middle.
Next up for ninth place Palace is a tricky away game against reigning champions Leicester.
