Whilst there are some obvious inclusions such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, there are a few names who made the shortlist for the first time in their careers.

Leicester City's Riyad Mahrez and Chelsea's N'golo Kante were included, having helped the Foxes to a stunning Premier League title earlier this year.

Stoke City's Joe Allen is also another surprise inclusion having made the list for the first time, with UEFA clearly acknowledging his efforts for Wales during the European Championships in France last summer.

Another Welsh hero from the Euros, Aaron Ramsey has been selected along with his Arsenal teammates Laurent Koscielny and Alexis Sanchez.

The Gunners' London rivals, Tottenham and West Ham, are represented by Toby Alderweireld and Dimitri Payet respectively, whilst two of Manchester United's summer signings, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba have also made the cut.
