The African goal-scoring machine the Serie A fans in Naples now enjoy did come on a platter as Napoli’s director of football, Cristiano Giuntoli locked Victor Osimhen up in a hotel for three days to stop him from joining Liverpool, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Napoli in 2020 broke the record for most expensive African signing to bring then Lille striker, Osimhen to Italy with Liverpool almost hijacking the deal.

Osimhen in two seasons will go on the win the league for Napoli for the first time in 33 years scoring 47 goals to surpass the 46 goal record of great George Weah becoming the highest scoring African of all time in Italy.

All of this record breaking moments would not have been possible but for the behind the scene moves of Giuntoli which his former collaborator Giandomenico Costi called “biggest masterpiece.”

“The signing of Osimhen is Giuntoli’s biggest masterpiece,” Costi told Tuttosport, as per Football Italia.

“He [Osimhen] was locked in a hotel for three days. Giuntoli knew Liverpool were interested, and Jurgen Klopp had made his move, but Cristiano spoke to Osimhen in the hotel for three days until he convinced him to accept Napoli,” he added.
