NFF to inaugurate beach soccer & futsal committee
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is taking steps to revitalizing the futsal and beach soccer in the country after they announced that will be inaugurating a dedicated committee on Thursday at their headquarters in Abuja, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
This committee, led by Chairman Otuekong Nse Essien and Vice-Chairman Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf (Fresh), will be responsible for organizing all competitions related to both futsal and beach soccer. They'll also oversee the development of these sports within Nigeria.
The move comes as Nigeria aims to recapture its past glory in beach soccer. The Supersand Eagles were once a dominant force in Africa, having secured victories at the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in 2007 and 2009. Their impressive run even saw them reach the quarter-finals of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup back in 2011.
Looking ahead, the Supersand Eagles are set to participate in the upcoming Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. They'll face Mauritania in a two-legged tie next month, with the winner progressing to the finals alongside host nation Egypt and six other qualifiers.
The future of beach soccer is set to see a historic development as well. For the first time ever, the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup will be hosted on African soil, with Seychelles taking center stage in 2025.
The inauguration of this committee highlights the NFF's renewed commitment to fostering the growth of futsal and beach soccer in Nigeria. With focused leadership and upcoming events, these exciting sports have the potential to regain their past prominence within the country.
