Former Manchester City player Joey Barton is facing continued legal trouble after judges rejected his hopes of securing release in connection with a March assault near a golf club.

Over six days, the teams will face one another in front of international football experts. Each fixture is being presented as an opportunity for players to attract attention and demonstrate their potential in a structured and competitive setting.

Djambon, who is recognised for his involvement in several transfers involving young African players to Europe - including Gaspard Ambassa’s move to En Avant Guingamp - is also active in talent identification in Cameroon.

The wider ambition of the Master League is to work with an extensive network of international scouts to identify, organise and help develop the next generation of Cameroonian footballers.

Its organisers want to create a lasting pathway between talented players in the country and professional clubs in Europe. The project is designed not only to showcase players during the tournament, but also to provide a broader framework for their integration into the professional game through evaluation and individual follow-up.

European scouts expected in Yaounde

The scouting presence planned for the event is significant for a first edition. Representatives from Sporting CP of Portugal, Swedish club Malmo FF, Sheriff Tiraspol of Moldova, French side RC Lens, Belgian club RSC Anderlecht, Portuguese club Estoril and Danish club FC Nordsjaelland are expected to attend.

Their involvement will give members of Cameroon’s 2009 generation an international audience as they pursue the possibility of securing their first professional contract.

Lautaro Martinez has confirmed Barcelona made an approach for him during the summer transfer window, but the Argentina forward decided to remain with Inter because he is happy at the club and wants to continue pursuing major honours at San Siro.

Barcelona were looking for attacking reinforcements after Robert Lewandowski left the club this summer. They subsequently signed Gabriel Jesus before the transfer window closed, but Martinez revealed that discussions over a possible move had taken place in recent months.

"Inter means everything to me: pride, happiness, and the desire to keep moving forward. I have chosen to stay here again, I want to do great things at Inter.

"I never imagined reaching this point in my career with Inter, achieving all my goals. This motivates me to keep moving forward; it's my mentality. I try to give my all in every training session."

Martinez has enjoyed a successful spell in Italy since arriving from Racing Club, developing into one of Inter's most important players and one of the club's most prolific goalscorers.

He acknowledged that football can change quickly, but said his current situation had made staying the clear choice.

"In football, you never know what is going to happen, but today I have a contract and I am happy. I decided to stay because I feel good and I want to achieve great things at Inter."

Martinez will lead Inter's attack when they face Napoli at San Siro on Saturday evening. Barcelona are expected to continue monitoring the forward, even though his latest comments underline his desire to remain with the Italian club.

Luka Modric says he intends to return to Real Madrid one day, but only if he can make a meaningful contribution to the club.

The Croatia midfielder ended his 13-year association with Real Madrid in the summer of 2025, leaving at the age of 39 when his contract expired. During his time in the Spanish capital, Modric established himself as one of the club’s greatest players and departed with legendary status.

Now 40 and due to turn 41 next week, Modric is continuing his career at AC Milan. He is aiming to help the Italian side challenge for the league title under manager Ruben Amorim.

In an interview with Marca, Modric was asked about Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho and whether he could imagine returning to the Spanish capital during the later stages of his career.

“Wherever he is, I always wish him the best. When I was in other teams, I always followed him and I was always happy when I had good results. I think the club has made a lot of success with his signing, with his arrival, because he is a winner, a great winner, and he knows the house. Know what it takes to win. And I hope they have a successful season with him. It’s something I always wish for Madrid and for him above all.”

Modric then made clear that he would welcome the opportunity to work for Real Madrid again, although he stressed that any return would need to have a clear purpose.

“Hopefully. I would like to. If I’m honest, I don’t have to hide it. Madrid is my home and of course one day I would like to return. But we are going to see how and in what role, if that happens. Liverpool have reached an agreement in principle with teenage winger Rio Ngumoha over an extended contract, according to TEAMtalk.

Nigeria head coach Rena Wakama has finalised her 12-player D’Tigress squad for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, with captain Amy Okonkwo leading a group combining established international experience with emerging talent.

The reigning African champions will make their third appearance at the global tournament, having previously competed at the 2006 and 2018 editions. Their latest campaign will begin in Berlin, Germany, where the team arrived on Wednesday ahead of the competition, which runs from September 4 to 13.

Alvarez has made one appearance in La Liga so far this season. He did not register a goal contribution in that match, meaning his record remains without a goal or assist in the competition at this stage of the campaign.

Azzedine Ounahi has completed a permanent return to Panathinaikos after the Greek club agreed a €15m transfer with Girona.

The Morocco international, 26, previously spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Panathinaikos while he was contracted to Olympique de Marseille. He has now committed his future to the Athens club by signing a contract running until 2030.

Girona will receive the full €15m transfer fee. Ounahi had been playing for the Spanish club before securing his move back to Greece, where he impressed during his first spell.

Olympique de Marseille will also benefit financially from the agreement. When the French club sold Ounahi to Girona, it negotiated a clause entitling it to 30% of any capital gain from a future resale.

That arrangement means Marseille are due to receive about €2.7m from the transfer to Panathinaikos. The payment provides the Ligue 1 club with a direct financial return from the midfielder’s next move.

Ounahi attracted considerable interest throughout the summer before deciding to remain with Panathinaikos. According to exclusive information reported by Africafoot, Ajax, PSV, FC Barcelona, Atletico de Madrid and Real Betis had all been closely monitoring his situation.

The midfielder, who was born in Casablanca, ultimately chose a return to Athens rather than a move to one of those clubs. His decision follows a productive first season with Panathinaikos, during which he scored five goals and contributed seven assists in 37 appearances across all competitions.

Ounahi is currently valued at €18m. His performances in Greece helped establish him as an important player for the club, and Panathinaikos have now secured his services on a long-term basis.

The transfer also concludes a period of uncertainty surrounding the player’s future. After leaving Marseille for Girona, Ounahi spent the 2024-25 campaign with Panathinaikos on loan before the Greek side moved to make the arrangement permanent.

Girona’s attention will now turn to their next fixture in Spain’s LaLiga 2. They are due to face Sporting Gijon in the fourth round of the competition.

Jamie Carragher says Arsenal may now need one of the world’s elite attackers to improve a squad that is already among the strongest in the Premier League.

The former Liverpool defender believes the league champions are missing a “gamechanger” capable of deciding important matches, despite their considerable strength in other areas of the team.

Arsenal were linked with Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior and Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez during the summer. However, neither transfer was completed, leaving Mikel Arteta’s side without the kind of headline addition Carragher feels could have significantly improved their chances of retaining the title.

“They needed someone to be a gamechanger. They tried to get Vinicius Junior, they tried to get Alvarez - that's the calibre of players.

“It's very hard to improve Arsenal now because they are such a good team, such a strong squad. So you're talking about a world class player as the only one that can improve them.”

Nigeria striker Christian Mba has made his latest Ukrainian move, joining Chornomorets on loan from fellow Premier Liga club Kharkiv.

The 26-year-old centre-forward completed the transfer on 3 September 2026, with his spell at Chornomorets running until 30 June 2027. No transfer fee has been recorded for the move.

Mba arrives after playing for Kharkiv, whom he joined from Albanian club FK Partizani in January 2025 for €200,000. His move to Chornomorets keeps him in Ukraine’s top flight and gives the Odesa club an experienced forward option for the remainder of the 2026-27 campaign.

The 1.90m striker was born in Asaba, Nigeria, and is predominantly right-footed. He will provide Chornomorets with a recognised centre-forward presence, although he has yet to make an appearance for the club this season.

Mba’s previous spell with FK Partizani was the most decorated period of his career. He helped the Tirana-based side win the Albanian championship in the 2022-23 season and added the Albanian Super Cup the following campaign.

Before joining Partizani, Mba played for Kosovo club KF Trepca 89, completing that move on a free transfer in February 2022. His subsequent switch to Partizani came during the 2022-23 season, before he moved on to Kharkiv two years later.

Chornomorets have now secured Mba’s services on a temporary basis, with the Nigeria forward contracted to remain with the club through the end of June 2027.

The summer transfer window in Europe’s leading leagues has closed, with English Premier League clubs once again dominating the biggest deals and Manchester City completing the most expensive move of the window by signing Enzo Fernandez for 145m euros.

Despite the scale of this summer’s spending, Neymar’s 222m-euro transfer remains the record in football and still stands well clear at the top. Nine of the 10 most expensive deals involved Premier League clubs, with Real Madrid the only exception.

Manchester City paid 135m euros for a 23-year-old player who had been involved in a fight to avoid relegation with Nottingham Forest until the final stages of last season. Tottenham Hotspur also committed almost 100m euros to sign a midfielder from West Ham, who had finished 18th and been relegated to the Championship.

Bruno Guimaraes joins Arsenal

Bruno Guimaraes had appeared to outgrown Newcastle United, making his departure seem increasingly likely. Manchester United showed interest in the spring, while Liverpool made enquiries during the summer.

Arsenal, however, proved the most determined suitor. The Gunners continued their pursuit after Newcastle rejected several offers and eventually completed the deal for the Brazil midfielder.

Savinho’s long-running move to Tottenham

The proposed transfer of Savinho to Tottenham Hotspur developed into a saga lasting almost a year. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola rejected two approaches for the player, first last summer and again in January.

Guardiola left his position after the 2025-26 season, apparently creating an opportunity for Savinho to move on. Negotiations remained difficult, though, and the transfer was not completed until 25 August, only a week before the deadline.

Manchester City win race for Ismael Bouaddi

The 18-year-old Moroccan attracted widespread attention after a successful 2026 World Cup campaign. Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United were among the clubs competing for his signature.

Manchester City ultimately won the race after making an offer approaching 100m euros. Some interested clubs withdrew, while others could not match the size of the agreement for a player with limited experience at the highest level.

Tottenham Hotspur sign Mateus Fernandes

Mateus Fernandes spent last season with West Ham, who finished 18th and dropped out of the Premier League. His performances nevertheless attracted attention from Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Only Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur pursued the Portugal midfielder seriously. Tottenham Hotspur prevailed, making Fernandes the club’s most expensive signing at that stage.

Sandro Tonali moves from Newcastle United

Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer record survived for only four days. The London club then paid Newcastle United 108m euros for Sandro Tonali, despite frequent speculation linking the Italy international with a return to his homeland.

Arsenal and Manchester City were also serious contenders. Arsenal abandoned their interest because of Tonali’s wage demands, while Manchester City turned to other targets.

Real Madrid pay 125m euros for Ousmane Diomande

Ousmane Diomande enhanced his reputation both at the 2026 World Cup and during an impressive Bundesliga season. Paris Saint-Germain were widely expected to sign the 19-year-old Ivory Coast winger, but were unwilling to meet the financial demands.

Real Madrid completed the transfer for 125m euros and also paid about 20m euros in agent fees and signing-on payments.

Bradley Barcola joins Liverpool

Paris Saint-Germain strengthened their attack by signing Ferran Torres, Maghnes Akliouche and Mika Godts. Bradley Barcola was already not guaranteed a place in the starting XI, and his opportunities were expected to decrease further.

Liverpool negotiated at length with Paris Saint-Germain and reduced the asking price slightly, but the deal still ranked among the five most expensive transfers of the summer.

Elliot Anderson leaves Nottingham Forest

The move for Elliot Anderson appeared to be Manchester City’s easiest major deal of the window. The club seemingly wanted the England midfielder strongly enough to accept Nottingham Forest’s terms quickly.

An agreement in principle was reached before the World Cup, while the official announcement came a week after the tournament ended. Manchester United were Manchester City’s only rival, but withdrew at an early stage after being deterred by the fee.

Morgan Rogers becomes Chelsea’s priority

Morgan Rogers, 24, was Arsenal’s main transfer target, although the Gunners were prepared to spend about 100m euros on the attacking midfielder. Tottenham Hotspur also showed interest but did not want to meet Aston Villa’s financial demands.

Chelsea took a different approach, completing the signing in July without lengthy negotiations. Rogers remained the most expensive transfer of the summer until Manchester City moved ahead in the final hours of the window.

Enzo Fernandez completes Manchester City move

Real Madrid identified Enzo Fernandez as their main summer target, but negotiations proved extremely difficult and ultimately collapsed. Representatives of the Spanish club repeatedly denied reports of talks, while numerous sources accused Real Madrid of misleading the public.

Manchester City were also interested at the start of the summer, although serious negotiations began only in August. The club may have needed time to decide whether the transfer was worthwhile or may have been trying to reduce the Argentina midfielder’s price. Neither approach succeeded: Fernandez joined Manchester City for 145m euros on deadline day.

FC Dallas have completed the permanent signing of Nigerian winger Daniel Job from Norwegian club Kongsvinger IL, with the 21-year-old agreeing a contract that runs until the end of the 2029 season.

The Major League Soccer club also hold an option to extend the deal for a further year. Job’s transfer fee has been reported to be in the region of $5.2 million, which would make the move the biggest transfer involving a player departing the Norwegian lower leagues.

Job joins FC Dallas after an outstanding spell with Kongsvinger, where he produced eight goals and nine assists in 20 appearances. His form attracted interest from clubs across Europe before the American club completed a deal for the winger.

FC Dallas Chief Soccer Officer Andre Zanotta said the club believed Job had the potential to develop into an important attacking player and highlighted the qualities he will bring to the side.

“Daniel is a promising young winger who has excelled in Norway and generated a lot of interest from clubs across Europe,” Zanotta told the club’s official website.

“We believe he has a lot of upside and the qualities to continue developing at FC Dallas, and we’re excited to have him here. His speed and ability to attack defenders will give us another dynamic option in the final third and add another element to our attack.”

Job’s arrival gives FC Dallas another option in the final third as he begins the next stage of his career in MLS. The club will hope his pace, direct play and recent record in front of goal can translate successfully to Major League Soccer.

The Nigerian winger will now focus on continuing his development in the United States and competing for a regular role within the FC Dallas attack. His long-term contract reflects the club’s belief in his potential and provides him with an extended opportunity to establish himself at the team.

The transfer is also notable for Kongsvinger and Norwegian football, given the reported size of the fee and the claim that it represents a record move for a player coming from the country’s lower leagues.

Job’s move comes as another Nigerian player, Chido Obi, is set to join Willem II on loan.
