Following her brilliant display in Nigeria's win against Chile in the U-17 Women's World Cup, Opeyemi Ajakaye  has been announced the Player of the Match.

 

The highest goal scorer during the qualifiers, though yet to score in this tournament, was all over the Chileans assisting the first goal of the Flamingos.

She gave the pass for Blessing Emmanuel to score the opener for the Flamingos to led as early as the 4th minute.

 

"Happy to have received the player of the match award against Chile! Even happier to have qualified for the knockout stage!!" She reacted via a tweet.

 

The Flamingos of Nigeria defeated Chile by 2-1 in their last group match which sealed their place in the next round of the competition.

 

The award is Ajakaye's second in consecutive matches in the tournament after taking the award in her team's mauling of New Zealand by four goals to nil in their second match.

 

Flamingos will slugged it out with the Group A winners United States in the quarterfinals at the DY Patil Stadium on Friday, October 21.
