Ahead of their first match in the women's U-17 FIFA World Cup, Coach Bankole Olowookere has disclosed his team's aim going into the match against Germany.

 

“We are excited to be starting the tournament by playing against one of the strongest women’s teams in the universe. It is a good challenge because if you’re going to win trophies, you must beat the best teams,” Olowookere stated.

 

“Our focus is on getting the 3 points at stake, which will boost our confidence for the remaining games of the group phase and going forward in the competition.”

 

According to the experienced gaffer, playing a team like Germany should not being about fear.

 

"Playing a strong team at the beginning should not present any apprehension. It is an opportunity to start with your best team and best tactics, and be vigilant to utilize the opportunities and possibilities that present themselves within the 90 minutes,” Olowookere added.

 

It will be recalled that the team had failed to make it out of the group stage in the last edition of the World Cup after losing first match to Brazil and draqing against England and Korea.

 

The Flamingos play Germany at the Pandit Jawaharlal Stadium in Goa, in their group B first fixture on Tuesday.
