Washington Spirit midfielder Deborah Abiodun has been named the NWSL Rookie of the Month for September, presented by Ally, in recognition of her impressive performances throughout the month, the league announced, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Her achievement marks the sixth time a Spirit player has earned the Rookie of the Month honor since the start of the 2024 season, underscoring the club’s strong record in nurturing young talent.

Abiodun made her NWSL debut on August 31 in a home match against the Chicago Red Stars and earned her first league start the following week in the Spirit’s 2–0 victory over Seattle.

Throughout September, the Nigerian midfielder started three matches, playing a pivotal role in controlling the tempo in midfield and contributing significantly to the team’s success.

Her composure, work rate, and tactical awareness helped the Spirit register three multi-goal performances and maintain three clean sheets during the month, cementing her growing influence in the squad.
