The Nationwide League One has made available a total of 44 players who have been released after medical check-ups revealed health issues, NigeriaSoccernet.com reports.

The league body stated the need for regular medical examinations to prevent potential sudden deaths among players.

The affected players come from 31 teams registered for the 2025 season, with Offa Football Club having the highest number at six players.

Dr Ayo, the NLO's Medical Consultant, confirmed these players are unfit due to underlying medical conditions, including systemic hypertension.

NLO's Chief Operating Officer, Olushola Ogunnowo, stated that comprehensive pre-season medical checks are standard, and 44 players will miss the 2025 season due to health concerns, reiterating the necessity of rigorous health assessments for all players in the league.

The NLO 2005 Season has commenced after the season kick-off match played on Wednesday, April 16, between Hyperbuzz FC and Likeminds FC, which ended 1-1.

However, the NLO deliberately gave an additional seven days' grace for clubs to perfect all their registration procedures by commencing further matches from Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
