Former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has expressed confidence that Nigeria can still qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, urging the players to give their all in the final two qualifying matches, writes Nigeriasoccernet.com.

Nigeria will face the Crocodiles of Lesotho on Friday at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane before hosting the Cheetahs of Benin Republic next Tuesday in their last Group C fixture.

The Super Eagles, currently third in Group C with 11 points from eight games, must win both encounters to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Speaking on the ObiOne Podcast, Mikel described missing another World Cup as unthinkable, calling on the players to take full responsibility.

“It’s going to be a crime, an absolute crime, if Nigeria doesn’t make it to the World Cup again,” he said. “We love our football too much. Our World Cup fate is in the players’ hands. They have to win these two games, no excuses.”

Mikel further emphasized that this is the time for total focus and accountability from the squad.

“At this stage, every off-field problem goes out the window. It’s about the players now. They must take responsibility and deliver. Nigerians are counting on them.”

With the stakes higher than ever, Mikel’s rallying call serves as a reminder of the nation’s footballing pride and the urgency surrounding Nigeria’s World Cup quest.
