Istanbul Derby: Ndidi laments Besiktas' derby defeat
Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has expressed his disappointment after Besiktas suffered a 3-2 home defeat to Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Besiktas had taken a 2-0 lead through goals from El Bilal Touré and Emirhan Topcu, but their advantage was short-lived.
A red card to Orkun Kökçü in the 25th minute turned the game in Fenerbahce's favour, allowing them to mount a comeback.
Ndidi acknowledged that the numerical advantage played a significant role in Besiktas' defeat.
"The match was going well for us. We even took a 2-0 lead. When we conceded a goal after the red card, the opponent gained momentum,” Ndidi told bein Sports.
Despite the setback, Ndidi emphasized the importance of staying focused on their goals.
“We wanted to stay in the match. We had a fighting spirit. We need to build on that a little more. We know we have quality. We must all stay united.”
