Nigeria’s Super Eagles have climbed six places in the latest FIFA world rankings, moving from 44th to 38th despite their recent elimination from the World Cup playoffs, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The upward shift also sees Nigeria retain its position as the 5th-ranked team in Africa.

Morocco continues to lead the continent and stands 12th globally, followed by Senegal in 19th place. Egypt and Algeria occupy the 34th and 35th positions respectively, while Tunisia trails just behind Nigeria in 40th place.

The new rankings comes after the team reached the final of the FIFA World Cup Playoff before losing on penalties to Congo in the final.
