CAF Expand to 16 Teams: Cameroon, Mali and two others qualify for WAFCON 2026

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) will expand to 16 teams from the current 12, starting with the 2026 edition in Morocco, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The decision was made by CAF's Executive Committee, with the expanded tournament set to feature the defending champions, Nigeria's Super Falcons, hosts Morocco's Atlas Lionesses, and 14 other teams.

The top four teams from the final qualifying round, Cameroon, Mali, Cote d'Ivoire, and Egypt, have joined the already qualified teams.

The WAFCON 2026 finals will take place from March 17 to April 3, 2026, and will serve as the qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
