Galatasaray Sporting director and vice President Abdullah Kavukçu has defended the club’s record-breaking decision to invest heavily in the signing of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, insisting that the move represents both ambition and long-term vision, Nigeriasoccernet.com writes.

The Super Lig champions completed Osimhen’s transfer from Napoli on a long-term deal, marking one of the most high-profile acquisitions in Turkish football history.

To secure his services permanently, Galatasaray paid €75 million ($85.74 million) to the Italian side, an unprecedented figure that shattered the previous transfer record in Turkey.

"There are players worth €140 million in the world, but Osimhen is the most talked about. Napoli made a much higher offer than us; you can verify this. There was a lot of talk, we won him in the final.

"We had that kind of money, so we did! Galatasaray is a huge club. What his value is, what he's done... It's not right to discuss these things right now! We saw what he did in a Champions League match. We're very happy he's with us."

While some critics questioned the magnitude of the investment, the sporting director emphasized that Osimhen’s arrival is a strategic move aimed at elevating Galatasaray’s status among Europe’s elite.

Abdullah highlighted the Nigerian international’s proven track record, leadership qualities, and hunger for success as factors that make him worth every euro spent.
