Former Dutch international George Boateng has revealed why he chose to represent the Netherlands instead of Ghana despite being a full Ghana.

Though the ex-Middlesbrough and Aston Villa star was born in the Ghanaian town of Nkawkaw, he chose to represent the Oranjes after moving to the European country with his parents.

"My parents moved me to the Netherlands quite early and I was integrated into the Dutch system from an early age so I felt playing for them. But I would have loved to be part of the Ghana team," he told Ghana Television during Stephen Appiah's testimonial match.

The 39-year-old who is now manager at Malaysian side Kelantan Football Association travelled to Accra to take part of the Stephen Appiah testimonial match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

Boateng also revealed he occasionally travels to Ghana: "At least I travel to Ghana twice every year."
